Let there be light!

As a participant of Portland’s Winter Lights Festival and under the employment of Walker Macy, a team of lighting designers, architects and good folks, we explored a series of small temporary installations and how light can provide an interactive and social experience to festival participants.

Explore

Early concept sketches and studies explore form, construction and user experience. For this installation our concept was “Graffiti Lanterns”.

Interact

A series of simple shapes contained an internal light source. The exterior face, a semi-opaque sheet of acrylic was painted black. As people began to scratch away the surface, the internal light is revealed. The final installation is a mosaic of individual marks, personal to each participant.

Shine

The study of light, pattern and shadow create the background for the “Graffiti lanterns”
